This hypnotic Mandala is an acrylic painting measuring 42 inches by 42 inches. The fantastic work was created in 1997, requiring hundreds of hours of open-eyed meditation, every square inch is meticulously groomed.

These low resolution Net images can't possibly do this Mandala justice. To get some idea of its qualities see detailed images (Center) and (Upper Left Corner).

Charles began this work by pouring and dripping splashes of thin acrylic paint on the surface of the raw linen canvas, pushing the wet forms around with brushes and sticks, etc. The circles and squares layout was carefully applied over this random pattern using colored pencils. The layers were then merged with the application of additional acrylic layers. This is a wonderful and powerful transcendental piece.

Technical note: From the traditional perspective, this piece would be considered a "Painting Panel," i.e. wrap stretched linen canvas over a hand made redwood and hard board frame. This (painting panel) needs no frame as the canvas continues around the sides which are (2.75 inches deep).
